They are now working on the island of Santo. The National forest inventory will set a baseline for the state of the country's forests. For the first time carbon stocks are being assessed. It's all about Vanuatu's future...and the worlds. The climate emergency is hitting home.

In Vanuatu, 'fores hemi laef', or forests are life. The are the backbone of culture, custom and life itself. But in this archipelago of islands, on the front line of climate change and judged to the most prone to natural hazards such as cyclones, earthquakes and tsunamis, efforts are being made to ensure a sustainable future. For the first time in 30 years a stocktake of the forests of this chain of islands is now underway. This is modern forestry in action. It's all about working towards a sustainable future.
