Mugabe's Calling Card - ZimbabweJune 2008 Violence in Zimbabwe escalates as Robert Mugabe's ZANU PF party fights growing political resistance. Using a hidden camera we follow the MDC's resistance movement. Julius is a young man in-hiding after an attack by Mugabe loyalists left him with severe injuries. He was beaten unconscious and left to drown. Many of his attackers were neighbours, 'I used to socialise with them', he says. 'Our crime was that we voted for the MDC', Julius tells us. 'We were beaten because they said we wasted our votes and sold our country'. A badly injured man, targeted by ZANU PF for acting as a polling officer, is being treated at a nearby hospital. He knows he is risking his life by appearing on-camera but does not turn us down; 'I want the world to know that it is true', he explains. 'People are being beaten by ZANU PF, people are being killed by ZANU PF'. Produced by SBS/Dateline Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Rwanda - Questions of Murder?A Question of Murder (2007): Did a UN employee participate in the genocide in Rwanda and use UN equipment to track down his victims? Why did the UN continue to employ him after these allegations emerged?Filmed for SBS DatelineDistributed by Journeyman Pictures.''My sister’s last words to me were to be a good girl and find her arm before they buried her''”, sobs Kwikwi. “ ''What hurts me the most is that I couldn'’t find it”'' : The man accused of murdering Kwikwi’'s family is UN employee, Callixte Mbarushimana. When international staff fled, he grabbed keys to the UN’'s communication offices and gave satellite phones to the militias. “He could transmit information to the army so they knew what the UN planned to do”, explains survivor’s spokesman, François Ngarambe. Mbarushimana also found evacuation plans, detailing safe havens for Tutsi UN staff. By the time other UN workers could rescue them, it was too late. “''Someone killed them before we got there”'', laments Gregory Gromo Alex. ''Despite the strong evidence against him, the Criminal Tribunal decided not to prosecute. “They wanted to prosecute ring leaders and he didn'’t fall within that category''”, explains Ken Fleming, QC. Initially, the UN continued to employ Mbarushimana. When they terminated his contract, he sued them. He now lives in Paris and refuses to return to Rwanda to stand trial.

Zimbabwe Rising ZimbabweSeptember 2009 - Filmed and reported for SBS DatelineSix months ago, Zimbabwes two warring political factions came together to form an awkward unity government. Today, there are signs of a new start in this divided and troubled country.Government agencies in Zimbabwe have been struggling to provide basic services. But now optimism is sweeping the country and Zimbabweans are starting to clean up after years of national neglect. Volunteers are out in force. Were digging this hole for all the rubbish explains one woman. Yet ask who is running the country at a nearby MDC rally and the answer is unamimous: There is nothing Mugabe does without consulting Tsvangirai. Yet rallies are the only way the MDC can express opinions. Mugabe still controls the security forces, the legal system and the media. People like Tsumele, who was set on fire by Zanu PF thugs, must now live among their attackers. I forgive them' says Tsumele, but my friends were shot dead. Its difficult to seek forgiveness from a dead person. Many MDC ministers see Mugabe halting their input through frivolous charges. Any member of our side can be picked up and locked away at any time, says one MDC minister. The first day of constitutional talks collapsed amid scuffles and accusations. Will Zimbabwe's current calm turn out to be nothing more than a lull between the storms?Produced by SBS, distributed by Journeyman Pictures

A Clean Bill Of Health - CubaJune 2006 Despite decades of crippling sanctions, Cuba has achieved the unthinkable. Its health care system rivals most Western countries and infant mortality rates are lower than those in America. "There is no place in the world with such a system as we have in Cuba", raves one happy patient. Prevented from importing drugs by sanctions, Cuba was forced to make is own medicines. It now sells this technology to other countries, enabling revenues from the health sector to rival those generated by tourism. But it's the training for free of international medical students that's really marking Cuba's stamp on the region. "In ten years, we will have trained between 100,000 -- 150,000 students", boasts Dr Estevez. America claims gestures like this are a means of Cuba buying UN votes. But Cubans see their success as an act of defiance against America. Filmed and reported by Ginny Stein Produced by SBS/Dateline Distributed by Journeyman Pictures
